Incident

Jet Boil stove caught fire

Lessons

Jet boil stove caught fire. I lit the stove as normal with the 1l cup on the burner, read my book whilst I waited for the water to boil. I noticed a strange smell and looked up to see flames coming out from under the main part of the jet boil and plastic dripping down onto the gas canister. I managed to turn the gas off although flames were close to the controller on the burner. Once it had cooled down I realised that the ignition was totally burnt out and that the plastic below the top section of the burner had blistered.

I have contacted the importers of jet boil about the incident as I have used jet boil for years and was shocked by this happening. Flames were coming out side ways. The importers are not interested and have told me that it is over 1 year old and the guarentee is ended. Had the breeze been a little stronger it would have been longer before I noticed the smell. I do not expect to have to watch a stove whilst water is boiling.

I have decided to report on here as I wonder if it has happened to anyone else. I do not know the cause, and jet boil do not want to see the burner to investgate further.
