Incident
Auto-belay climbers climb alone. On this occasion, a climber chose a route well to the right of his auto-belay strap. He was about three metres up when spotted by a staff member and told to straighten up. He looked peeved and shortly after let go. He swung a long way left and nearly kicked me in the face.
Lessons
Auto-belay climbers work alone, typically, so need to be more careful as they have no partner for extra help. They must be encouraged to climb straight up and not deviate from the line of the auto-belay.
Causes
Poor choice of route for auto-belay
