Incident

While lead climbing and working a hard route leader decided to pre clip 3rd set of draws. On decent the leader assumed they were on belay and sat back to be lowered. Leader was not on belay however the belayer was holding the rope which slowed decent. Leader hit the ground slightly faster than usual but no injury was caused.

Lessons

Be clear in communication and expectations, don't leave the ground without being on belay and checking your partner. This could easily have resulted in serious injury had the rope not been held.
