An experienced young man with a group of novice girls. when he initially lead climbed, the unsupervised novice belayer was just paying out slack, too much to catch a fall. when lowering off it was clear they needed to take in many arms lengths before descending. The group of 4 continued to top rope directly from the lower off.
Lessons
Provide better instruction and supervision to the novice before their first lead belay experience.
