Incident
An experienced trad lead climber fell 10’ to the floor on a Grit lead. One cam placement
pulled out. He landed on his back on soft grass, with his head next to a large rock
Lessons
1) If you are not a regular Grit climber, be extra careful when leading on grit as the very different style of climbing increases the difficulty and gear placements can be sparse
2) If you reach up to place gear, give it a full reassessment once at eye level. In particular, check for cams ‘walking’ and therefore becoming loose
